No second arrest yet in Goddard case

Former school counsellor Darren Goddard fourth bail application has succeeded

Last month one of the rape charges against Goddard, a former counsellor at the school was separated from the many other charges against him for a co-accused to be added to the charge sheet.
This, however did not materialise as state prosecutor Rene Padayachee told magistrate Boikhutso that much of the investigation was outstanding pending the second accused’s arrest. Padayachee said the State needed to tie up loose ends before the second accused was brought to court as they did not want any aspect to still be under investigation at that stage. Goddard’s attorney Wade Paul (of Siva Chetty Attorneys) did not object to the adjournment on condition it was ordered as a final adjournment. The case has now been adjourned until March 20.
Goddard has been indicted to stand trial in the Pietermaritzburg High Court from July 31 to August 25 on 10 counts of rape and sexual assault.
The charges relate to eight boys, aged between five to thirteen years – who were allegedly molested during counselling sessions at the school.
