Community applauds arrest of brutal rapists

Police spokesperson Mthokozisi Ngobese confirmed that detectives tracked down the perpetrators last Wednesday night after receiving information the men were in the area. Police surrounded the property the men were hiding in and then swooped. The suspects were found in possession of the stolen loot which included a laptop, microwave over, TV and other household items.
The suspects made a brief appearance in court last week and were remanded in custody until April 26. The victim is currently recovering in hospital, after sustaining serious injuries after the suspects gained access into the home forcefully demanding valuables, money and beating her with a hammer used to break open a concealed family safe.
Alexandra Station commander Phillip Mlambo said he was delighted with how police and the community worked together to apprehend the suspects.
“Putting community safety first is always a priority for the SAPS. We can solve crime if we work as one with the community”, Mlambo added.
And the community has heaped praise on the station for the swift arrests. Christine Maskill, Cleland’s Crime Watch social media group administrator, applauded the police engagement on the case.
“We salute the hours put into capturing the perpetrators. The police were constantly on high alert throughout investigations leading to the arrest,” said Maskill. The Cleland Crime watch group has urged residents to be vigilant at all times and even take additional precautions during the day.
“Visibility needs to be encouraged; criminals cannot take advantage if you are visible on your premises and to your community members. Do not fall into the trap of being complacent with your surroundings. Be vigilant of any suspicious activity in your area and constantly communicate with the police stations”, Maskill added.
