Cyber crime report awaited in Goddard case

State advocate Frank Van Heerden on Monday asked for a 6 month adjournment to compile a report on the 3.2 million images under examination.
On August 1, the State was granted an adjournment by the Pietermaritzburg High Court for the report to be made available on August 14. This meant that Cyber Crime Unit officers would have had to view and examine at least 200 000 images every day of the week to compile a report for Monday’s court appearance. They have to date only gone through 1.5million images. No evidence was led on Monday.

Judge Nomusa Khuzwayo granted the adjournment, and extended Goddard’s R10 000 bail that had been granted by Judge Sidwell Mngadi in March. He had previously been in custody for nearly eleven months after his arrest in March last year.
The case has been postponed to next year and set down for trial from January 29 – March 2, 2018 for trial.
