Black Friday is upon us!!

The name stemmed from many retailers reporting over the years that some of their highest profits were made on ‘Black Friday’. The black portion of the name, Black Friday relates to businesses recording their losses in red ink and gains in black.
On this day retailers open shops early and offer promotions at considerable discounts. Well South Africans don’t celebrate Thanksgiving, but more and more retailers are offering Black Friday promotions and everyone loves a good deal.
This year “Black Friday” falls on November 25 , making it the start of the festive season and the beginning of packed shopping malls and eateries. Families globally use this day to complete festive shopping, prepare for Christmas and to refurbish their houses with brand spanking new appliances and techno gadgets.
Tips for Black Friday Shopping:Decide what you want in advance. You may NOT be able to cover all the stores and may not be able to get ALL the early bird specials. If possible have a group of people – each going to different stores to buy for the others in the group.
If you want to make the most of this year’s sales bonanza, you better get your elbows ready, and rise early to be first in the queue. Check Black Friday adverts from various local retailers through-out this week’s print edition of Maritzburg Sun.
