Elderly Bulwer farmer stabbed and burnt to death

Another farm killing has sparked outrage in the farming community after a 64 year old  Bulwer farmer  was stabbed to death yesterday.

Berg Protection Services spokesperson Brett Deavin said that the security company was alerted by the slain farmer’s wife, who discovered the body that had several stab wounds and had been set alight with petrol.

“We were alerted after she had arrived home from a cycling race. On arrival at the farm she realised that the access gate to the property was locked.  After several attempts to open the gate she eventually gained access and when she entered the front door, she noticed traces of blood and called the security company”, said Deavin.

Concerned neighbouring farmers and security company’s reaction officers arrived at the scene to find the house had been ransacked with valuables missing, and the farmer’s charred remains scattered on the front door passageway, he added.

Police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Thulani Zwane said that when police got to the scene, “it appeared as though the man had been attacked with gardening tools and burnt all over his body”.

Police are currently investigating a case of murder as no suspects have been apprehended, said Zwane.

Kwanalu’s Safety and Security spokesperson, Koos Marais said that the organisation is outraged and most concerned with another farm murder. “We call on the SAPS to do everything possible to bring the perpetrators to justice.  We’d like to thank everyone that reacted to the incident and urge farmers to come together in such a concerning period as we can never be alert enough”.

The spokesperson appealed for anyone with information regarding the murder to contact SAPS.
