Local tour operator scoops African award

Coming in at position 33, the Pietermaritzburg entrepreneur has attributed her steadily growing success in the tourism industry to hard work and a sharp business sense.

“I am always surprised when I’m nominated on national and international renowned lists.  I focus on my goals and work hard,” said Bhoola.

Over the years, Bhoola has earned various prestigious awards such as the Chamber of Business award and the Entrepreneur of the Year Award in 2003, and is a two-time winner of the Impumulelo Award.

Constantly involved in developing the Pietermaritzburg business community through initiatives such as being a chairperson and long-standing member of the Kwa-Zulu Natal tourism services association (SATSA), Bhoola is also a current member of the SATSA Exco committee of Pietermaritzburg tourism.

Despite the achievements under her belt, Bhoola believes there is a shortage of females in the tourism industry.

“Females are always put in a position where they are not exposed to operations and the business aspect of the tourism industry. That must change,” said Bhoola.

She further asserted that growth was possible in the Pietermaritzburg tourism industry but it just needed more “belief” and idea generation on a global scale.
