Shock over couple’s murder

The Zimbabwean pastor and his wife who were murdered in their home

A 32-year-old Zimbabwean preacher and his 28-year-old wife, were shot dead during a robbery at their Scottsville extension home during the early hours of Thursday morning.
It is believed pastor Proud Kanyongwe and Belinda Mukucha,  were awakened at their Globe road home when two male robbers gained entry to their home after forcing open the front door with a cement footpath slab at around 2am.

The couple had been awakened as a result of the noise and were confronted by the two armed men.

Six other family members were in the house while the couple was attacked.

Reeling from shock, one of the family members said they were besides themselves when they heard the gunshots.
“We didn’t know what was happening. By the time we got out of our rooms, they had already been shot and the robbers gone,” said the relative.
The couple had sustained head and chest injuries.
The assailants had attempted to ransack the house and managed to get away with two cellphones and a laptop.

When Maritzburg Sun visited the home, relatives and members from the murdered pastor’s congregation had gathered there in disbelief.
“This is just shocking, no words can explain the loss we feel for such a brutal act,” said a family member.

Neighbours were equally dumbfounded as to how the murder took place as various security companies were employed in the area.

“It is a very quiet neighbourhood and we are shocked to hear that our neighbours were killed…it’s frightening you never know when it could be you,” said one neighbour.

Other neighbours offered support and condolences over community social chat groups.

Alexandra Police Station spokeswoman Kholeka Mhlongo confirmed a case of murder and house robbery was being investigated by them.
