Students a target during exams

It is alleged three men entered the residence through the unsecured bathroom window, ambushing the unsuspecting five students who were in the house. The unmasked men held the females at knife-point demanding cash and gadgets.
Lindelwa Goge, who was held hostage as the robbers ransacked the house, hesitantly spoke about the ordeal to Maritzburg Sun. “We were sitting in the lounge watching TV when we heard a banging noise coming from the bathroom. I got up to check what was happening and met these men in the passage. They were carrying knives,” she said.

She added that the robbery has caused them several setbacks, especially during the current exam period. “We are studying for our exams; all my notes were on my laptop,” she said.
On the same evening, two students were robbed on Ridge Road by three men driving in a silver-grey Opel twin cab. The robbers made away with two laptops, one MobiCell and one Samsung phone.
Alexandra Police Station spokesperson, Captain Kholeka Mhlongo, said the exam session is a fragile time as students walk to the library at night to study. He warned students to be vigilant.
Cases of armed robbery are being investigated.
