Magubane has been commended for his excellent work that has seen an unprecedented
hefty prison sentence in the case he investigated against Mthobisi Thezela (29) who received 30 years imprisonment for armed robbery, attempted murder and possession of unlicensed firearm.
This comes after another eye-brow raising conviction where three suspects were nabbed for robbing a student walking on Riverton Road, Scottsville, and sentenced to 11-years imprisonment each for robbery with a weapon.
The police officer with 16 years of experience under his belt said his career began in 2002 as a member of the Richmond SAPS Task Team heading up political violence cases. With knowledge and experience
gained from the task team, Magubane joined the Alexandra SAPS in 2014 working on serious and violent
Applauded by his colleagues for his diligent effort, Magubane attributed the successful arrests to teamwork. “It is an all-round team effort; I have much to learn from my colleagues and am thankful for their support during the investigations of these cases until finality,” he said.
Magubane admitted his line of work had challenges especially since it was life threatening. “I have arrested gangs and syndicates and along the way you create enemies putting my family and my life at risk,” he said.
Despite the challenges, he stays positive, with his family as a constant motivation to work hard.
He urged individuals with the yearning for clean good governance to consider joining
the SAPS. Alexandra Road SAPS Station Commander Colonel Phillip Mlambo commended Magubane for his thorough work that ensured the convictions.
