Mayor to attend to city gravesites

Pensioner and founder of Gravesite cleaners Juliana Pole wiping her late husbands grave at Mountain Rise Cemetery

This intervention comes after Maritzburg Sun’s article on city woman and Gravesite Cleaner’s founder, Juliana Pole, who has devoted her time to cleaning Mountain Rise cemetery and Ethembeni Memorial Park.
In an interview with Maritzburg Sun, Njilo said the city’s next clean-up campaign will tackle suburban areas, including cemeteries.
“A clean-up campaign will look into clearing up areas not only in the CBD, which has been the prime focus of the municipality,” he said.
He added that the municipality and the Themba Njilo Foundation will work with Pole to create a sustainable project that will run regularly.
“Residents and the city need to constantly work together in order produce results. It is not the municipality’s city alone but also the residents who live in it,” said Njilo.
Pole said she was delighted her initiative to clean-up her graves that need assistance has drawn positive attention from the city’s roleplayers.
“It is something I did out of the goodness of my heart; now it is turning out to be something that can create employment opportunities for the youth,” she said.
