President slams lawlessness

ANC President Cyril Ramaphosa with ANC KZN chairperson Sihle Zikalala and Deputy Chairperson Mike Mabuyakhulu at breakfast meeting in Pietermaritzburg on Saturday.

ANC President Cyril Ramaphosa has slammed groupings that invade construction sites and government offices claiming to be advocates of economic transformation. Ramaphosa was delivering the keynote address at an ANC breakfast briefing at the Golden Horse Casino in Pietermaritzburg on Saturday, where he accused such groupings of being thugs who misrepresented ANC policy on Radical Economic Transformation.
“There are people who are hijacking and distorting our polices, and we say law enforcement agencies must act swiftly against them because we are not about lawlessness,” said Ramaphosa. He insisted that the ANC was pushing for land expropriation without compensate, but would do that using lawful means.
ANC KZN chairman Sihle Zikalala, who introduced the president, said radical economic transformation was a policy founded in the principle of the law.
“We are not about land grabs or invasions of construction sites and demanding a share in the work. Those people are thugs and should be treated as such,” said the KZN chairperson.
The breakfast meeting was attended by the ruling party’s top brass from the Moses Mabhida region, the province and professional bodies, such as National African Farmers Union, Black Lawyers Association, and the National African Federated Chamber of Commerce, as part of the Thuma Mina campaign.
