Golfers pledge towards school shoe drive

The top three teams in the tournament were Delon Pillay, Vinay Rajbally in third place, in second place was Paris Dlamini and Senzo Ngema and the winners were Fez Sineke and Thulani Xulu.

The annual Omar Latiff Golf Tournament that was held at the Victoria Country Club on Sunday will use proceeds from the tournament to purchase 250 pairs of school shoes for disadvantaged learners.
The tournament that is organised by Shabeer Essa, in honour of the late Omar Latiff, who had a love for golf and passion for education, is aimed at raising funds to assist historically disadvantaged schools and learners.
Essa said the tournament was also used to remember other fallen golfing buddies including prominent city paediatrician and hospital founder Dr Mac Lalloo who passed away last year.
Thus far the memorial tournament has assisted five schools with jungle gyms, computers and data projectors to the value R50 000.
“In 2017 we assisted five schools and two NGO organisations with shelters for learners, library books, computers, jungle gyms, chairs for teachers and funds towards pupil projects. This year is a school shoe drive. We have committed to deliver 250 pairs of school shoes to learners who do not have shoes and are going to school bare feet. We believe that we have created a brand which would continue every year to assist learners and schools in need. We welcome any and all to make a contribution or even come join us at the next golf day,”said Essa.
