Excitement was the order of the day for talented local cricketers as KZN Inland Schools Cricket held their capping ceremony at the Pietermaritzburg Oval on Friday.
KZN Inland CEO Heinrich Strydom congratulated the under-13, -15, -17, -19 boys and under-19 girls who made the teams, calling it an “incredible achievement”.
“You probably had the dream to get into these teams at the beginning of the year, so well done. Be grateful for this opportunity to wear the KZN Inland badge and for everybody who made it possible,” said Strydom.
He encouraged the young cricketers to use every single moment to prepare for upcoming tournaments.
Dhanil Maharaj, KZN schools president, said the selection process began at the beginning of the year when they asked for nominations and statistics from various schools within the province.
“We are humbled by the support from the schools within the KZN Inland. We have the cream of the crop within the KZN Inland seated among us and we are certain that we will see some of these players on TV one day. The purpose of these trials is to make sure that the pipeline of cricket exists and it is successful within this country,” said Maharaj.
